Trail: All of the trail is 2 track. Terrain is through forested areas and through sandy jack pine areas. There is little gravel (less than 1km) therefore very barefoot friendly. There will be 2 river crossings, which are both hard flat bottoms, and the river is dammed so there should be low flow.
Ride Camp: We will be in a pretty level field. Hay will have been cut but there will likely be second cut alfalfa growing back up. There will be porta potties on site and horse water provided. Good cell reception in camp. Located 10 minutes from the Town of High Prairie. Early arrival, late departure is possible but must be arranged with Ride Organizer. Dogs are welcome but CANNOT be off leash and are NOT allowed in vetting or crewing areas at any time. This is a no frills ride – no breakfast/lunch provided to riders/crew. Ride Management is planning to host a BBQ Burger dinner on Saturday evening (BBQ Burgers and Pasta Salad). Those attending are welcome to to bring a side to the supper but it is optional.
Directions to Ride Camp: From High Prairie, AB take Highway 749 North (Circle K’s Intersection). Drive until you cross the South Heart River Bridge, slow down, take your next left (West on Twp Rd 755B). Follow this gravel road approximately 2 miles. You will see signs leading you to camp.
SECONADARY OPTION – TRUCK ROUTE AROUND HIGH PRAIRIE: turn north on 40th Street within High Prairie then left on Township 750, then right on Highway 749. This route is recommended for larger units as Circle K intersection is a tight turn.
OTHER TRAFFIC ITEMS TO NOTE: if coming from the East, slow down at the railway crossing by Drift Pile and the Culvert just after Sucker Creek before Enilda near Range Road 155. The bump has gotten nasty and we don’t recommend hitting it faster then 50 km/hr.
Ride camp opens Friday, July 25th at 2PM.
